Complete the square to solve $0 = x^2 - 4x - 3$ and determine the roots. Then sketch the parabola $y = x^2 - 4x - 3$ and label the intercepts and vertex.

$3=x^2-4x$

 $x^2$ $-2x$ $3$ $-2x$

$3+4=x^2-4x+4$

$7=(x-2)^2$

 $x-2$ $x \ \$ $x^2$ $-2x$ $-3-4$ $-2\ \$ $-2x$

Finish solving for $x$. The solutions will be the $x$-intercepts of the corresponding parabola.
