The $x$ -intercepts of a quadratic function are given in each part below. Write a possible equation for each function in standard form.

$x =\frac { 3 } { 4 }$ , $x = -2$

Work backwards: Use the Zero Product Property to write an equation in factored form, then multiply to write the equation in standard form.
Answer (a):
$y = (4x - 3)(x + 2)=4x^2 + 5x - 6$

$x = -\sqrt { 5 }$ , $x =\sqrt { 5 }$
Hint (b):
Work backwards as was suggested in part (a).
Answer (b):
$y = x^2 - 5$
