3-33.

Solve each of the following equations using any method. Be sure to check your solutions.

1. $- 3 \sqrt { 2 x - 5 } + 7 = - 8$

$-3\sqrt{2\textit{x}-5}=-15$

$\sqrt{2\textit{x}-5}=5$

$2x−5=25$

$x=15$
Be sure to check your solution.

1. $2 | 3 x + 4 | - 10 = 12$

See part (a) for a possible strategy.

$2 \mid 3\textit{x} + 4 \mid = 22$

$\mid 3\textit{x} + 4 \mid = 11$

$3x+4=\pm11$

$3x+4=11$ or $3x+4=−11$
Be sure to check both of your solutions.
