5-26.

Write the equation of the inverse for each of the following functions. Homework Help ✎

1. $f(x) = 3x - 8$

This function multiplies by $3$ then subtracts $8$. How can these operations be undone?

Add $8$         $f^{-1}(x) = x+8$

Divide by $3$       $f^{-1}(x)=\frac{x + 8}{3}$

1. $f(x) = \frac { 1 } { 2 }x + 6$

$f^{ −1}(x) = 2(x − 6)$ or
$f ^{−1}(x) = 2x − 12$

1. $f ( x ) = \frac { x + 6 } { 2 }$

$f^{ −1}(x) = 2x − 6$
