Explain how $\tan^{−1} x$ is different from $\frac { 1 } { \operatorname { tan } x }$.

$\tan^{− 1}x$ is the inverse tangent. It is an angle whose ratio is $x$. The input and output are interchanged from $\tan\left(x\right)$!
