Write the equations of the following lines.

1. A line with slope $=-\frac{1}{2}$ through $(5,-2)$.

$y=mx+b$

The given point is not the y-intercept, but it is an $\left(x,y\right)$ coordinate pair.

$-2=-\frac{1}{2}(5)+b$

Solve this equation for b.

2. A line through the points $(1,4)$ and $(3,0)$.

$m=\frac{4-0}{1-3}$

This is the slope. Now follow the steps in part (a).
