2-29.

Solve each equation for $x$

1. $x^2+3x=0$

The equation is set equal to $0$, so factor.

$x(x+3)=0$

Use the Zero Product Property.

$x=0\text{ or }x+3=0$

1. $x^2+b=7$

Subtract $b$ from both sides of the equation.

$x^2= 7 - b$

Take the square root of both sides.

$x=\pm\sqrt{7-b}$
