In Lesson 3.1.4 you used long division and area models to divide polynomials. In this lesson you used a Giant One. How do these methods compare?  

1. Rewrite $\frac { x + 7 } { x - 2 }$ using Najma’s technique of creating a Giant One from problem 4-52.

   Step (a):

   $\frac{x-2+9}{x-2}$

2. Compute the quotient $\frac { x + 7 } { x - 2 }$ using an area model or long division.

   Step (b):

   $\left. \begin{array} { c } { 1 } \\ { x + 7 \longdiv { x - 2 } } \\ { \ \ \ - ( \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ ) } \\ \hline \end{array} \right.$

3. How do your answers to parts (a) and (b) compare?
