Given $k ( x ) = \left\{ \begin{array} { l l } { 2 x ^ { 2 } - 4 } & { \text { for } x < 2 } \\ { - 3 x + 10 } & { \text { for } x \geq 2 } \end{array} \right.$.

1. Is $k(x)$ continuous at $x = 2$? Explain.

Substitute $x = 2$ into each piece of the function.

2. If $j(x) = k(x + 1)$, what is the function for $j(x)$?

Substitute $\left(x + 1\right)$ for every $x$ in $k(x)$. Remember to change the domain as well.
