Rewrite each equation in graphing form and identify the key points.

$y = \frac { 1 } { 4 } x ^ { 2 } + \frac { 1 } { 2 } x + \frac { 5 } { 8 }$

Step 1(a):
Multiply by 4.
$4\textit{y}=\textit{x}^{2}+2\textit{x} + \frac{5}{2}$
Step 2(a):
$\text{Now complete the square and multiply by } \frac{1}{4}.$
$\textit{y}=\frac{1}{4}(\textit{x}^{2}+2\textit{x}+1)+\frac{3}{8}$
Answer (a):
$\textit{y}=\frac{1}{4}(\textit{x}+1)^{2}+\frac{3}{8}$

$y = \frac { 1 } { 4 } x ^ { 2 } + 5 x + 41$
