Solve each system.

1. $\frac { x } { 2 } + \frac { y } { 4 } = 4 \\ \frac { x } { 4 } - \frac { 3 y } { 8 } = - 2$

Eliminate the denominators by
multiplying before trying to solve.

$2x + y = 16$

$2x − 3y = −16$

$\left(4, 8\right)$

1. $x + 2y + z = −1 \\4x − y − z = −1\\ −3y = 2z$

Solve the last equation for $z$ in terms of $y$, then substitute into the other two equations to find $x$ and $y$. Use those values to find $z$.
