Solve each system of equations below. If you remember how to do these problems from another course, go ahead and solve them. If you are not sure how to start, refer to the Math Notes boxes in Lessons 2.1.1 and 2.1.3.

1. $y = 3x + 1\\ x + 2y = −5$

Substitute $3x + 1$ for y in the second equation.

$x + 2\left(3x + 1\right) = −5$

$\left(−1, −2\right)$

b.$2x + 3y = 9 \\x − 2y = 1$

Multiply the entire second equation by $−2$.

$−2x + 4y = −2$

Solve for $x$.
$x = 3$
$\left(3, 1\right)$
