Solve the system of equations at right.

$x+3y=16\\x−2y=31$

The answer for the linear system is $(25,−3)$.

1. Now rewrite the system and replace $x$ with $x^2$.

$x^2+3y=16\\x^2−2y=31$

2. What effect will this have on the solution to the system? Solve the new system.

Since $x^2$ replaced $x$ and you already know the solution for $x$, what does $x^2$ equal?
