2-27.

Solve each of the following systems of equations algebraically. Then confirm your solutions by graphing.

1. $y = 4x + 5\\ y = −2x − 13$

Substitute $4x + 5$ for $y$.

$4x + 5 = −2x − 13$

Solve for $x$.

$x = −3$

Substitute $−3$ for $x$.

$y = −12 + 5$

Solve for y.$y = −7$

$\left(−3, −7\right)$

1. $2x + y = 9 \\y = −x + 4$

See part (a).
