Simplify each of the expressions below. You may use an equation mat and tiles.

1. $−\left(5x + 1\right)$

1. $6x − \left(−5x + 1\right)$

1. $−\left(1 − 5x\right)$

1. $−5x + \left(x − 1\right)$

One strategy to start with is to make all of the subtraction within the problem
into addition and then simplify like terms.
