Compare the two equations below.

$\left(x+2\right)\left(x-1\right)=0$ and $\left(x+2\right)+\left(x-1\right)=0$

How are the equations different?
Hint (a):
$(x+\enclose{circle}[mathcolor="blue"]{\color{black}{2)(x}}-1)=0$ and
$(x+\enclose{circle}[mathcolor="blue"]{\color{black}{2)+(x}}-1)=0$
Answer (a):
In the first equation, the polynomials are multiplied. In the second equation, they are added.

Solve both equations.

Set each factor equal to zero and solve.
Hint 2(b):
For the second equation, combine like terms.
