2-38.

Solve the following systems of equations algebraically and then confirm your solutions by graphing.

1.   $y = 3x - 2$
$4x + 2y = 6$

Substitute $3x -2$  for $y$ in the second equation.

$4x + 2(3x - 2) = 6$
$4x + 6x - 4 = 6$

Solve for $x$.

$x = 1$

Substitute $1$ for $x$.

$y = 3(1) - 2$

Solve for $y$.

$y = 1$

($1, 1$)

1.   $x = y - 4$
$2x - y = -5$

Substitute $x = y − 4$ in the second equation.
