6-27.

Nina has some nickels and 9 pennies in her pocket. Her friend, Maurice, has twice as many nickels as Nina. Together, these coins are worth 84¢. How many nickels does Nina have? Solve using any method, but show all of your work. Homework Help ✎

Let *n* represent the number of nickles

5*n* + 9 = Nina's money (nickles are worth 5 cents so multiply *n* by 5).

2(5*n*) = Maurice's money.

Set up an equation. Nina's money + Maurice's money = 84 cents. So, 5*n* + 9 + 10*n* = 84

Nina has five nickels.
