11-12.

Three flags are shown below on flagpoles. For each flag, determine what shape appears if the flag is spun very quickly about its pole. If you do not know the name of the shape, describe it.

  1. A vertical line segment, labeled pole, with half of a circle, attached on the top half of the segment. The top of the half circle, is below the top of the segment.

Try sketching the 3D shape rotating around the pole.

    a sphere

  1. A horizontal line segment, labeled pole, with a trapezoid below the segment, on the right half. The longer base is attached on the line, and right ned of the the base, is left of the end of the segment.

a cylinder with a cone top and bottom

  1. A horizontal line segment, labeled, pole, with 2 right triangles, above the line. Left triangle has right angle on the left, and horizontal leg on the segment. Right triangle has right angle on the right, and horizontal leg on the segment. The horizontal legs of the 2 triangles meet on the segment.

a double-cone: two cones attached at the vertices
