1-48.

Connie is helping her mother gather together the loose change (coins) in their house. They have collected a large jar full of quarters and dimes, and Connie wants to arrange the coins on the table so that it will be easy to know how much money they have.

  1. On your paper, draw a diagram to show Connie how she can arrange her quarters and dimes to make her money easy to count.

Be sure your work is neat!

  2. Draw another arrangement that would also be easy to count.

    Try using a rectangular pattern.

  3. Which of your arrangements do you think is easiest to count? Explain why.

Why did you choose this arrangement?
Another student, Hannah, chose a rectangular arrangement with quarters on one side because there are quarters in every dollar.
