Compute without a calculatorSimplify each of the following expressions without using a calculator.

  1. Try circling each term before beginning any simplification.

    It is important to start be simplifying the expression inside the parentheses.

    It could be helpful to think of subtracting a staking steps backward, and adding as taking steps forward.

  2. Adding and subtracting decimals is just like adding or subtracting any other integers.
    Just be sure to keep track of the decimal point!

  3. Remember that multiplying two negative numbers is like removing groups of a negative number.

    Multiplying decimals can be tricky, and deciding where to put the decimal point in your answer is especially hard.
    Here, it should be in the thousands place.
