Do the following causal relationships claimed make sense? In other words, is it possible that the first event described could cause the second? Explain your answer in a complete sentence.

  1. An increase in the number of pages in a book could cause an increase in the cost of the book.

    It costs more money to print more pages so, yes, it makes sense for the cost of the book to increase as well.

  2. An increase in shoe size could cause an increase in spelling ability.

    Is it possible that having larger feet gives people the ability to spell more accurately?

  3. An increase in the number of years of education could cause an increase in salary.

    Yes.

  4. An increase in facial tissue sales could cause an increase in hot chocolate sales.

    Winter might cause both of these but does one cause the other?

  5. An increase in walking time could cause an increase in weight loss.

    Walking is exercise. Exercise can lead to weight loss.

  6. An increase in a husband's age could cause an increase in the wife's age.
