Make up sets of data that satisfy each of the conditions described in parts (a) and (b) below.

  1. 6 pieces of data with a median of 12, a mode of 12, and mean of 10.

  1. 4 pieces of data with a median of 8, a mode of 8, and a range of 8.

Start by making sure the median is 12.

Then you could ensure that 12 is the mode by making three of them.

The mean of 4, 4, 6, 6 is 5. How can you tell without calculating?
Can you use this idea to help you make up other numbers to make the mean of your data set 10?

This one is very similar to part (a).
