9-161.

Consider this data: , , , , , , .

  1. Arrange the data into a stem-and-leaf plot.

To the right, we've begun the stem-and-leaf plot for you.
Try completing the stem-and-leaf plot by yourself.

  2. Find the mean, median, and mode.

Remember that the mean is the total of all the data divided by the number of pieces of data, the median is the middle data point, and the mode is the most recurring data point.

There is no mode, since there are no recurring data points.
Remember to check your work when finding the mean and the median.

  3. If the value was replaced with , which measures of central tendency would change and which would not? Explain.

If there were another , would there be a mode? Would this replacement change which number was in the middle?
