Write an equation that represents each diagram below and find the value of the variable.  

  1. Two equal line segments. Top: 3 sections labeled from left to right: x, x, 10. Bottom: labeled 24.

    Because the two lines are equal, you can write the equation:

  1. 3 rays have the same starting point. Left ray is vertical, middle ray slants up and right, right ray is horizontal. The gaps between the rays are labeled as follows: between left and middle, 55 degrees, between middle and right, k. between left and right, 90 degrees.

    Use the same method as part (a).
