Find the area of the following triangles. Show all your work.

  1. A triangle with a base of 27 feet. Two internal triangles are created by a line segment, of 12 feet, drawn from the upper vertex, to the base, at right angles .

Two of these triangles make a parallelogram, what is the area of the parallelogram?

To find the area of a parallelogram, multiply the base by the height. What does the area of the triangle have to be?

  1. Right triangle, with short leg, 8.5 mm, and long leg, 9 mm.

What is the area of the rectangle at right? Use it to find the area of the original triangle.

The right triangle of the problem is the lower diagonal half of a rectangle that is 8.5 mm, by 9 mm.
