Write an inequality for the problem below, and solve it. Show your solutions on a number line. Be sure to define your variable.

Western Air Lines will allow you to fly with suitcases that weigh no more than $50$ pounds. If your suitcase weighs $8$ pounds and the schoolbooks you need to bring on your trip weigh $11$ pounds, how many pounds of clothes and other items can you pack?

What is the maximum weight allowed by the airline?
What is the difference between this weight and the total amount of weight you already have?

$8 + 11 + w ≤ 50 \text{ lbs}$

$w$ = the amount of weight remaining

Isolate $w$, just as you would do for an equality.
