Find the distance between each pair of points if they were graphed on a number line. Represent your work using absolute value symbols.

$-27.1$ and $53.2$
Step 1 (a):
Think of the absolute value of an integer as its distance away from $0$ on the number line, so it is always positive.
$|-27.1|=27.1$
Step 2 (a):
Because the distance away from $0$ is $27.1$ $27.1$ , and because the absolute value of $53.2$ is $53.2$ , you can add the absolute values to get the distance between them.
$|-27.1|+|53.2|=27.1+53.2$
Answer (a):
$80.3$

$71.54$ and $-28.3$
Hint (b):
Use the same method as part (a).
Answer (b):
$99.84$

$-38.9$ and $-7.3$
Hint (c):
This time, the numbers are on the same side of $0$ . How will this change how you find the distance?
