4-113.

Sketch each collection of tiles below. Name the collection using a simpler algebraic expression, if possible. If it is not possible to simplify the expression, explain why not.  4-113 HW eTool (CPM)

1. $(-2x)+5+3x-4x+(-1)+(-x)$

$−4x+4$

1. Six plus four times a number, plus four minus four times the number.

Use the tiles drawn for you.

• Since there are $4$ positive $x$-tiles and $4$ negative $x$-tiles, there are no $x$-tiles left.
Then you combine the remaining unit tiles.

$10$

2. Three groups of a number plus two.

The tiles are drawn for you. Can you simplify the expression?

3. $5+7x^2+4x$

Take a look at this expression. Are there any terms you can combine? Remember, you can only combine terms which share the exact same variable.

4. $4x^2-2x^2+(-6)+3$
