10-138.

Solve the systems of equations below using the method of your choice. Check your solutions, if possible.

The Substitution Method can be used to solve both of these systems.

1.  $y=7-2x$
$2x+y=10$

Substitute '$7-2x$' for $y$ in '$2x+y=10$.'

$2x+(7-2x)=10$

Solve for $x$. What do you notice about this system?

$7\ne10$

1.  $3y-1=x$
$4x-2y=16$

Follow the steps in part (a), but substitute
'$3y-1$' for $x$ in '$4x-2y=10$.'
